The New Year was brought it with the help of THE EZEE BAND ( www.ezeeband.com ). The excellent band rocked and rolled the crowd with great tunes from the 50’s on up in Gainesville’s Downtown Plaza. Young and old enjoyed “grooving” to the beat.

And Ice skating at the seasonal rink was enjoyed by dozens throughout the evening.

The New Year was brought in without noticeable problems and everyone appeared to be on good behavior throughout the downtown scene.

STRANGE

“Memorial Mile” is a Gainesville Veterans for Peace Memorial Day (5/28) tribute to soldiers who have died in the US declared “War on Terror” in Iraq and Afghanistan. A section of NW 8th Avenue east of 34 Street is a measured mile through wetlands that restrict access from side streets. More than 3,842 fallen military will be represented by personalized grave markers set out 4 abreast and one mile in length.

MAGWOOD

The Joint Aviation Unit is a cooperative effort between the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and Gainesville Police Department, which operates under the authority of Alachua County Sheriff, Sadie Darnell. The Joint Aviation Unit provides a valuable resource to all emergency response agencies within Alachua County and surrounding Counties. We have a full time Pilot, a Tactical Flight Officer (observer), along with back-up pilots, back-up TFO’s, and a Maintenance Technician.
